even the most handsome prince charming.

I think nearly very little girl dreams of prince charming.
He is tall, dark, and handsome. He rides up on a white horse. He rescues you from danger. He is faithful to you alone. He is always kind and gentlemanly. He is so amazing (not to mention handsome), he takes your breath away. He is perfect. And he fulfills all your dreams.

Say it with me, ladies - "Awwwww."

Perhaps you are still waiting for your "prince charming" and saving your heart for him.
Maybe you're dating or engaged to your prince and he is just wonderful.
Or possibly, you're happily married to the man of your dreams.

Ladies, regardless of where you are in your girlish heart's quest for "the prince", I want to remind us all of something I've been thinking about - while real life love stories are beautiful, God-written romances are ever so worth waiting for, and while marriage is a precious blessing -

no man can ever fill the place in your hearts
that longs for that perfect prince to come and rescue you.

I love these words...

"Even a beautiful God-scripted love story can never satisfy the way Jesus does. Even the most heroic and Christlike man on earth can never fulfill the longings of our heart like the true Prince and lover of our soul (Jesus Christ). And until we are able to truly make Him our first love, until we are willing to give up our dream of an earthly love story for His sake, we will never know the fullness of Him who fills us all in all. We will always be looking to a mere man to meet the desires of our heart, rather than to the One who created us, who knows us better than we know ourselves, and who gave His very life's blood to rescue us."
-Leslie Ludy

Ladies,

May you and I remember this.
Your husband may be wonderful and dreamy.
Your boyfriend may make you swoon.
The future husband you hope for and pray for will truly be a man among men!

But.... no human can ever take the place of Jesus in our hearts.
We cannot be the perfect wife or girlfriend or woman.
And no man can be the perfect husband or boyfriend.
Only God can fill that void in our hearts.
And when that void is filled with His unconditional love?
Why, there's lots of room for giving and receiving
romantic love from the one He has chosen for us.

And how beautiful is that?

Embrace your Prince Charming, Jesus, today.
He loves you like no one else can!!

Love your sister on this journey of chasing Him,

XO

Erin

  3. Beautiful Beautiful post! I think we all get caught up in the idea of the "perfect man" sometimes and this is a great reminder that no one person is perfect and all we need is a love in a deeper spirit to make us whole!

  4. I love Leslie Ludy. Her books forever changed my heart and life, particularly Authentic Beauty. It will forever be in my testimony. I fully believe without her heart for purity and teaching young women, I would not be who I am today or where I am today...Or possibly not even married to my earthly prince. Her words have forever shaped my ministry and I taste them in your writings too. Thank God for women like Leslie and women like you, Erin! You truly are a blessing to so many young women. Keep shining :)

  7. This is all so true. One of the biggest mistakes I could ever make as a married woman, would be to expect my husband to love me the way God does. As wonderful as he is, at the end of the day, he is just a human and God is...well...GOD! It would be unfair for me to expect my husband to always be everything I want him to be. Only God can complete me.

    Great post!

  8. Yes, yes, yes to every word of this post! As I wait for God to script my love story, I remind myself of this truth every day. I know my "man among men" will be oh so worth the wait, BUT he will never satisfy me...just like I will never be able to fully satisfy him. It would be wrong of me to place those expectations on him! Only Christ fulfills.

Thank you for the encouragement, Erin.

  9. Lovely post! The truth is, Prince Charming doesn't exist. At least, not in the ways we dream of. As a married woman, I can attest to the fact that being married isn't always a bed of roses. It is wonderful, but it's also hard. When you have two fallen individuals trying to live life together, it's bound to get a little rocky from time to time. But, when I focus on Jesus, who is Prince Charming if there ever were one... When I fall in love with Him, then my husband doesn't have to shoulder the burden of meeting needs that he was never meant to meet.

  12. Erin, this is just what I needed to hear. So humbling. This is truly something I struggle with– learning to let Jesus be my number one at all times! I hate to admit that I turn to Matt so many times to fill the longings of my heart, but you're right, Jesus is the ONLY one who can do this! Amen :)

  21. Thank you for stopping by my blog, Erin! You are too kind.

I love your attitude and this post is so true. I'm a happily married woman of 17 years, and a born-again Christian. Years ago I heard a sermon that women need to not expect their husbands to fill the void that only God can fill. It was an eye-opener for me.

Only Jesus gives perfect love and when it's free why do we look for it elsewhere?

    Have a great weekend!
